چکیده

mutant derivative that was reported to undergo unstable DNA transformaA tion (abortive transformation) was previously isolated from a transformable strain of Bacillus subtilis (IYER 1965). In view of the fact that such a system of abortive transformation would be a powerful and much needed tool for analyzing dominance relationships of genes in B. subtilis, we report the experimental basis of our conclusion that the behavior of the strain derives from nutritional interactions that depend upon the specific biochemical lesions carried by the mutant. The mutant strains proved to possess a previously undetected biochemical block in the histidine pathway. The latter mutation correlated with the ability of competent cells to interact with transforming DNA from wild-type donors to produce minute colony recombinants (abortive transformants). The biochemical block constitutes a trivial explanation for the apparent abortive transformation that is simulated under a limited set of nutritional conditions.

Mechanism of activation of transcription by the complex formed between cyclic AMP and its receptor in Escherichia coli.

and single-strand-specific cleavage. The two open complexes produce identical deoxyribonuclease I footprints and similar methylation interference/protection (one base shows different behaviour), indicating that both complexes are at the same binding site. The two open complexes, however, differ in the amount of unwinding in the 13 to + 3 region, as assayed by probes for singlestranded DNA. A fu...

Effect of different dietary protein levels on growth, carcass biochemical composition and apparent digestibility coefficient in juvenile Caspian trout (Salmo trutta caspius)

The effects of dietary protein levels were investigated on growth, carcass biochemical composition and apparent digestibility coefficient in Caspian trout, Salmo trutta caspius. The present study was carried out in a completely randomized design with five experimental diets containing five different dietary levels of protein: 35, 40, 45, 50 and 55%, and 15 fish per replication of each with an i...

The Possible Role of Atp6 Gene in Cytoplasmic Male Sterility in WA (Wild Abortive) Type of Rice (Oryza sativa L.)

The possibility of occurrence of some rearrangements inside and or around coxII and atp6 genes and their relationship with male sterility in rice lines having wild abortive (WA)  cytoplasm was studied. Two sterile (IR58025A and IR62829A) and two maintainer lines (IR58025B and IR62829B) were used. Radioactive Southern blotting was employed to carry out the experiments. The hybridization of coxII...

Comparison of Three Soft Computing Methods in Estimating Apparent Shear Stress in Compound Channels

Apparent shear stress acting on a vertical interface between the main channel and floodplain in a compound channel serves to quantify the momentum transfer between sub sections of this cross section. In this study, three soft computing methods are used to simulate apparent shear stress in prismatic compound channels. The Genetic Algorithm Artificial neural network (GAA), Genetic Programming (GP...
